Overall purpose

We’re looking for ambitious graduates to join our growing team of talented researchers, delivering high-quality insight to organisations such as The Woodland Trust, Citizens Advice, Defra, The National Lottery Community Fund, Ofwat, Vision Direct and Lily O’Brien’s.

We are Blue Marble, an independent social and market research agency. We’re a small team with big clients – we deliver major studies across the public, private and third sectors.

If you join us, you could spend your working days:

  • Conducting ethnographic research with farmers around the country to inform long-term policy decisions and behaviour change efforts to protect and enhance England’s lowland peat
  • Conducting full day events with groups of sixth form students to talk about the future of the water industry
  • Using advanced statistical techniques to understand the mindset and behaviours of contact lens users across Europe
  • Delivering presentations to senior decision-makers at blue-chip companies and Government departments, helping them to shape their future strategy.

We’re a team of experienced researchers who use qualitative and quantitative techniques to help our clients successfully navigate complex challenges. Our clients value us for the strategic insight that we deliver – whether on major policy issues, brand strategy or new product development.

We place a premium on work-life balance. We pride ourselves on our warm, friendly team environment with a flexible approach:

  • We provide access to shared working spaces for up to 2 days per week, for those who would like to use this (there is no requirement to do so).
  • We meet as a whole team every 8 weeks in the Bristol or Reading area for a full day of collaborative working, training, and strategic thinking.
  • We travel within the UK (and occasionally abroad) to attend client meetings and conduct face-to-face research.
  • The rest of the time, we work from home.

We’re growing and are therefore looking for 1-2 junior researchers to join our team.

Responsibilities

You’ll play a key role at the heart of our exceptional team. You’ll work with a variety of clients and help to deliver research studies across a range of methodologies.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Working with senior team members to design quantitative and qualitative studies
  • Overseeing primary research – largely in the UK, and occasionally overseas
  • Delivering clear, coherent, and accurate analysis of quantitative and qualitative data
  • Creating visually engaging reports and presentations

The benefits

  • Training in all aspects of the market research process – including (but not limited to) research design, focus group moderation and advanced statistical analysis
  • Sponsorship to study for the MRS Certificate in Market & Social Research Practice (an industry-recognised qualification)
  • Clearly defined path of progression
  • Opportunities to travel for research – primarily within the UK, but also overseas depending on project commitments.
  • We reward individual performance through salary increases and promotions. Bonuses are paid out annually each December and reflect both the performance of the company as a whole and individual personal performance. Whilst the bonus is contingent on the company meeting its profit target for the year and is paid out of profits over and above that target, we have consistently given bonuses for the last few years in the region of 5% of salary.
  • A range of staff benefits, including private health insurance, annual wellbeing day, 5% employer pension contribution and enhanced parental leave
  • Starting budget of £200 to set up a home office

Person specification

We’re looking for someone who is bright and curious, with strong communication skills. You should:

  • Have some experience of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Have strong organisational and analytical skills
  • Be intellectually curious, articulate, and creative
  • Be a team player
  • Like the idea of working for an agency that punches above its weight
