Head of Food Bank

North Paddington Foodbank is an evolving dynamic charity providing emergency food and complementary support to local people experiencing temporary food crisis. The food bank’s mission is to draw on the strengths of the local community, provide an accessible service to meet the immediate needs of the local people, enabling them to find their route out of food poverty.

We are looking for a Head of Food Bank to lead strategic and senior managerial functions which include Finance, Fundraising, Policies and Procedures, Human Resources, Data Protection and Communications. The Head of Food Bank is responsible for ensuring the smooth running and development of the services offered by the food bank. 

 

Role overview 

Salary up to £40,000 pa

Start date ASAP

5 days/week, 35hrs per week 

London Based

The successful applicant will be an experienced, skilled manager with the ability to inspire, motivate, develop and lead our committed and dedicated diverse staff and volunteer team. 

The role requires strong strategic and operational planning skills with a focus on policy and strategy to ensure agreed common vision, goals and direction. The post-holder will research and record information and produce reports for the Board in a timely fashion. 

The role requires a self-starter who is competent leading complex cross functional activities and programmes. It requires a hands-on approach at times coupled with the ability to generate creative results, strong project management skills, and be an excellent communicator. 

This position involves regular communication with the Trustee board on current status and risks and also with operational teams to ensure effective execution of the organisation’s mandate.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience (essential): 

Experience of operating in a senior management role for at least 2 years  

▪ A strategic thinker able to plan ahead, anticipate and adapt to operational change

▪ Knowledge of local government and local voluntary and statutory services

▪ Strong influencing and negotiating skills with a range and level of stakeholders, able to facilitate meetings at board level 

▪ Demonstrable commitment to empowering and encouraging colleagues

▪ Able to cope with the physical and emotional demands of the role 

▪ Able to demonstrate understanding of and commitment to the organisation’s core values, vision and mission 

▪ Good IT skills, with a working knowledge of MS Office applications and google docs

▪ Experience of successfully leading transformation through inception to delivery

▪ Ability to manage multiple complex projects and improvement teams within statutory, constitutional and value for money requirements 

▪ Knowledge of reasons why people suffer food poverty and related legislative, benefit system and other issues. 

▪ Knowledge of local government and local voluntary and statutory services

▪ Experience of developing and implementing strategy and policy to deliver sustainable and successful outcomes 

▪ Experience of securing the Health and Safety and welfare of a large workforce including volunteers 

▪ High standard of personal and professional integrity 

▪ The ability and experience in interacting at a high level and developing relationships with

key stakeholders on a national, city wide and local level, delivering outcomes through effective partnership working 

▪ Fundraising skills including bid-writing, donor acquisition and donor management 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience (desirable): 

▪ Experience of managing volunteers 

▪ An effective networker 

▪ In possession of a current, clean driver’s license 

▪ Experience of working across a spectrum of cultures 

▪ Experience of managing stock control systems
